In the Spring of 1993, The Salvation Army in Springfield, Ohio was
concerned about children and young people in our neighborhoods. From interviews
with area school teachers and principals, a common concern emerged about our
community's children's apparent lack of respect for anyone in authority
positions, about the level of violence and their lack of self-control.
Later that summer we met a young man, Mr. Mark Rauch, who felt
that God wanted him to open a Martial Arts school for urban children. The match
seemed just right and the Springfield Mudokwan school opened at The Salvation
Army in September of 1993. From very humble beginnings, the school has grown and
developed over the years - influencing hundreds of area children with solid
martial arts training and character development based on biblical values.
The strength of Springfield Mudokwan lies in its core leadership
team. These young men and women are great role models for all students; they
have developed a love for teaching and thoroughly enjoy working with children of
all ages. This corps of black belts teach in small group settings - groups
broken down by belt ranks, and provide direction and supervision for members of
our Junior Leadership Team. Those in the adult classes also enjoy personalized
teaching by black belts and a curriculum that puts them on a direct course for
black belt excellence.
In October of 1998, Mr. Mark Rauch moved on to open a new
Mudokwan school in New Maimi (Hamilton), Ohio. Mr. Jim Gingrich took over as
Head Instructor and the school continues to grow and develop. The "family
atmosphere" of our school is welcoming to people of all ages - students have fun
while developing character and martial arts skills.
